knitting away again

Work just hasn’t been that busy so knitting is making progress. On The Needles right now:

1) still working on Mom’s Not Pink Stole Picture 282) Holly Red and Green Snowflakes
Picture 36

I’ll be writing up the free pattern for this pair shortly.  The ’snowflakes’ are pretty easy and can be placed wherever suits you on the leg portion.  The heel is your somewhat standard sl1 type heel and the turn will be fairly standard as well.  At the moment, I’m planning the instep and sole to be plain green and toe plain red but that is subject to change.

3) Blackrose Wristlets

The free pattern for these pretty wristlets is from Knitty 2008 by Knittyspin. I like the way these are working up in Knit Picks Imagination.

This afternoon I took Marci shoe/cosmetic shopping.  omg….  How does one spend that much money so fast?!  yikes.  But, she really does need the shoes.  One of her close friends is getting married next Friday (yep, day before Halloween) and Marci needs shoes to wear to the celebration.  I ended up getting her a pair of flats, pair of heels, a warm winter hat and some mittens (she DID ask if I could make some for her which of course, I all ready have started but she needs some this week so….)  I even bought myself a $6 pair of blue shoes with black heels and we decided $2.00 on vintage type clutchish handbags was a fantastic deal so got one red one and one nude/black lace one to share.

David needs new shoes too so…. going to have to get some next week along with a couple pairs of jeans.

blahhhh

The family room has my half empty boxes strewn about – I’m looking for 1) candle warmer since son has decided he needs it; 2) winter coats; 3) rest of knitting patterns; 4) odds and ends of paper work that need filing or tossing; 5) some knitting patterns that are neatly categorized (no, really, they are!  in folders arranged by item type – amazing!); 6) some pics to go on bedroom wall.

Why am I blogging instead?  because today is blahhh.  Nothing is wrong, everything is moving forward even just kinda blahhhhh.

New hire orientation was yesterday, I’ll be starting on Monday it looks like.  Could have used a couple more weeks to get some things sorted out but hey, can’t be upset about only being out of work two weeks!  It’s a temp to hire position and will remain temp for up to 6 months which is a long time but still, it beats unemployment.  I was blessed enough to find a job within the same field even.

I’ve been knitting a fair bit on Mom’s blue scarf (scarf for ally by Sumarai Patterns) .  It’s the first lace project I’ve done for a while and is moving along quickly.  There’s about 16″ done so far.

I’ve been mentally reviewing the knitting skills that I want to expand in -09 and I’m a bit behind!

Son has decided to do home school again this year.  For once, I’m not entirely thrilled about it.  He is very self directed so far as studying/learning goes but I really feel that he needs a socialization push.  I’m not big on the typical H.S. social scene but he really does need more than he’s allowing himself right now.  That doesn’t mean he doesn’t have friends, he certainly does.  They’re older (early 20’s) have jobs or are in college, which is fine.  But… there are a few things that come from having a variety of experiences with different people.  So….   figuring this one out.

Oh, and I have a couple apt’s with school counselors myself :D

Again, nothing is wrong.  Moving forward appropriately.  Just kinda blah today.

minor update – consolidated boxes, disposed of no longer needed paperwork and assorted stuff, have a pot of chili simmering on the stove, laundry in the washer…. not bad for the blah’s. Oh… and the most important thing – I found the two sets of Knit Pick’s Options needles that were still packed. *insert huge smile here*

If I seem over enthusiastic about Knit Picks in general, it’s not for lack of awareness there are other yarn/needle/acessory companies out there.  It’s that I appreciate the quality they offer for pretty economical prices.  I’m not at the stage yet where I can self-justify spending over $200 on one project.  Someday that may be realistic for my skill level and budget – should the two ever become aquainted, of course.

So….. there have been several new pattern possibilities running through my head. I want to combine several lace patterns for some new stoles, a blouse or two, perhaps even a skirt. Rather ambitious for such a slow, beginning lace knitter! One of the projects rambling around is screaming for attention – a wrap/stole/shawl type object with combination of lace edgings and lace border. A few of the current faves are:

Wouldn’t this make a gorgeous sleeve edging?

Where can these pieces of visual delight come from? Knit Wiki, of course!

And I’ve been toying around with the idea of using the underskirt and edging panels in Inspired to Knit by Michelle Rose Orne as a shawl and matching skirt. inspired-to-knit-wedding-skirt
Will I get those projects on the needles and turn them into finish objects?!? Very good question!

The words for the week are: insomnia and nightmares.

It hasn’t been a bad week just long and a hella lot of life ’stuff.’ I got home about 7:30 or so last night after work, made some spaghetti for myself, sorted through knitting and yarn, threw away a bunch of stuff that I’m simply not moving (some call that stuff ‘junk’), approved a couple patterns for inclusion on ravelry (go me!!!!! seriously – I’m beyond thrilled), knit for a while, frogged about 2″ on sock1 socks for soldiers due to a dropped stitch then re-knit, they even have their own container now – Christmas candy bucket, works perfectly! - s4sprogress1

I wasted some time playing games online, re-worked the divorce papers and went over January’s bank statement (so far). Maybe that was the root of the latest round of nightmares hehe. 4B has spent $1,068 on bars, taking someone or other out to dinner, etc so far this month. Rather a lot considering his income is about $1500/month.  That doesn’t include ANY household expenses such as electric, gas, rent, etc.  I’ve spent $500 total on myself including regular meds, 2 doctor visits and 2 rounds of other meds, my luxury item – nails, of course, and a couple other necessary things.  Yet, I managed to get rent paid, utilities paid, blah blah blah.  He wonders why I’m not out of here just yet…. hmmm……

I’d do a self-congratulatory pat on the back but that’s soooo not the point. Can you hear the “it’s only a few more days” chanting in the background?
