Sewing, Vintage in particular

A major issue in this separation/divorce is the disappearance of my fabric stash and sewing machine.  (One of these days I’ll post about the Great Storage Unit Incident.)  At one time I was a decent seamstress; my daughter used to have a crinoline skirted, ridiculously ruffly, fussy, girly wardrobe.  She had ‘ruffle bum’ undies, cute mix/match pants and tops.  My closet was filled with unique projects – some beautiful, some er well, let’s go back to unique.

I miss the whole process of choosing fabric, design, alterations, creation.  Said loss turned me back to knitting, salvaged some of my yarn stash and books.  The whole ‘window closing/door opening’ thing.

Anyway…. vintage clothing and accessories are favorite projects regardless of the medium.  Jill put this link in her blog , Sense and Sensibility, and I’ve been drooling openly most of the morning.

Thinking lacy gloves, smoke ring, perhaps modifications of Victorian Lace Blouse (Inspired to Knit by Michelle Rose Orne), list goes on and on.

It’s true, I wear ruffles, I wear jeans, I wear ruffles with jeans.  However, I do not wear ruffled jeans.  Ever.  Think it would look good with my leather wish list?

And… due to the brilliant nature of socknitters members, I don’t have to learn Magic Loop to make socks that typically are done on circs.  It’s still on the list of things to learn, but now it’s not a ‘have to.’  Will try  out converting circular needle patterns to dpns and post accordingly.  I’m thankful for the generous nature of knitters!

Oh, and one more and… I must learn to spin.
